(…sips, mmmhmm!) Homemade detox tea satisfies me more than store detox tea brands (aka teatoxing brands). Most of the store detox tea brands around claim to be Natural, as you go through the articles on this blog you will find out that it can’t be said enough – ‘Natural’ doesn’t exactly mean natural, some brands use it as a marketing gimmick.

Teatoxing is a practice people attempt while trying to cleanse or lose weight and while there are brands with genuine ingredients, there are others with potential harm in their ingredients.

Knowing how to read Labels can help you when buying these detox tea brands.

As much as possible, I personally enjoy making my own homemade detox tea so I can appreciate the high detoxifying benefits from the ingredients.

Natural Ingredients that you pick up by yourself are most times better and more effective because it is free from harmful ingredients and laxatives which is present in some detox tea brands

Remember if you decide to go on a detox. You need to stay hydrated, exercise and eat lots of vegetables and fruits. As with detox salads, the ingredients for homemade detox tea are also filled with anti-inflammatory properties.

1.  Secret Homemade Detox Tea

Serves: 2 

Cooking Time:  7 minutes, Preparation Time:  5 minutes

Ingredients: 

  •  4 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  •  2 cups hot water
  •  4 tablespoons lemon juice
  •  ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  •  2 pinches cayenne pepper
  •  2 teaspoons ground ginger
  •  2 teaspoons raw, local honey

Direction:

1.    Heat water in a pan until boiling.

2.    Add all the ingredients to water.

3.    Allow to simmer for 3 minutes and strain the mixture into cups.

4.    Serve warm.

2 – Lemon Ginger Detox Tea

Serves: 3 

Cooking Time:  5 minutes, Preparation Time:  10 minutes

  • 3 cups water
  • 3 teaspoons ginger, freshly grated
  • 3 lemon wedges

Direction:

1.    Heat water in a pan until boiling.

2.    Grate the fresh ginger into 3 mugs with a coarse grater.

3.    Divide lemon wedges in the mugs and pour boiling water.

4.    Let the ginger and lemon steep for 5 minutes to serve.

3 – Mint Parsley Tea

Serves: 4 

Cooking Time:  5 minutes, Preparation Time:  10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups water
  • Lemon slices
  • 1 cup fresh parsley
  • ½ cup mint leaves

Direction:

1.    Boil water in a kettle and add fresh parsley and mint leaves in it.

2.    Let it infuse for 5 minutes and strain the tea into cups.

3.    Drop in lemon slices and serve hot.

4 – Horsetail-Pomegranate Detox Tea

Serves: 4 

Cooking Time:  5 minutes Preparation Time:  12 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoons dried mint
  • 4 teaspoons dried horsetail
  •  3 cups of purified water
  • 2 organic lemons, cut into thin slices
  • 2 pomegranates

 Direction:

1.    Boil the water in a saucepan and add mint and horsetail.

2.    Cover with a lid and let steep for about 10 minutes.

3.    Strain the mixture into cups and keep aside to slightly cool.

4.    Extract the seeds from the pomegranate and crush into a pestle.

5.    Eliminate the pulp and transfer the juice over the tea.

6.    Drop in the lemon slices into the cups and serve warm.

5. Apple Cider Tea

Serves: 2

Cooking Time:  7 minutes, Preparation Time:  10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 cups water
  • 4 tablespoons lemon juice
  •  2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 pinches cayenne

Direction:

1.    Boil the water in the saucepan and add all other ingredients.

2.    Allow to simmer for about 2 minutes and pour into serving cups.

As with other detox recipes, the word is caution and no extremism, listen to your body but first consult with your doctor before going on any detox diet especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
